THE OGDENITE PRESENTS ‘FEMME AS FOLK’ MUSIC SERIES

New music series in Ogden features women, trans, and nonbinary artists every weekend in March: bOOK MORE WOMXN!

OP-ED

“Femme As Folk: Book More Womxn” is a new multi-genre music series featuring women, transgender, and nonbinary musicians every Friday and Saturday in March at Lighthouse Lounge in Ogden.

I started The Ogdenite mostly out of my love for music and desire to support local music. We have amazing musicians in Ogden, and Utah, but like most communities women, trans, and nonbinary artists are underrepresented. I challenged Paddy Teglia, entertainment manager at Lighthouse Lounge, to only book womxn-led bands every weekend in March (it's Women's History Month) and he agreed. I also wanted to use the opportunity to raise money for Rock Camp SLC because they are literally opening doors for hundreds of marginalized kids, including my daughter who has attended the summer camp twice.

We need full equality in the Ogden Music Scene, and everywhere. It should be the norm, not for just a month; this series will show that it's possible.

Now we just need the community to come out, enjoy the shows, and celebrate with us!

This is a dream lineup full of artist I love. Floatinground is comprised of staff and open mic regulars at Lighthouse Lounge that I've seen explode quickly after forming a band this past year. They just released their first single “Out of Tune” on Bandcamp!

I've been a huge Talia Keys keys fan for over a decade now. She's just off a national tour with Lukas Nelson and The Promise of the Real with a hot new single out, a reimagined cover of "Sweet Dreams" that is infectious, just like Talia. I'm thrilled to have her at this intimate venue in Ogden.

I saw SLC's Fur Foxen at Ranch Rock in Ogden Valley last summer and their beautiful chamber pop left a lasting impression on me. I am so excited to present them to Ogden.

Spirit Machines are on fire with an amazing new single "Best For You," and their hit song "Candy Shell" got picked up in the newly released game Cyberpunk 2077!

Ginger & Gents are a legendary SLC band; their shows are such a blast. Chandra Marie recently played at the Equality Utah Gala in the presence of her music idols The Indigo Girls!

I could go on and on. And so I will! Every single one of these artists is just so good.

Two women I admire and aspire to, the beautiful singer/songwriter Che Zuro and Korene Greenwood, Queen of country, rock, and soul, both have an incredible career history. They frequent Ogden venues as solo artists, and I’m excited to have them as part of this series.

Shecock with a Vengeance is a PARTY (I’m smiling now just thinking about it); Zaza Historia VanDyke is delicious to watch with DoomCupcake; Somebody/Anybody are rarely in Ogden so it’ll be such a treat to rock out with them; OrcaMind is a dreamy-pop duo I first saw at Lighthouse Lounge open mic and have taken off this year; Carrie Myers & The Proper Way are an Ogden staple and you won’t believe Carrie’s gorgeous voice; Saldura is one of my all-time favorites (Lyndi SLAYS); Caryn’s vocals (Standards and Substandards) will absolutely blow you away, and if you’re into Americana like me, look no further than The Backyard Revival with Sarah Little Drum (and Zaza!). I’ve heard good things about DJ Suzy and can’t wait to see her—dance party on St. Patrick’s Day eve! Perfect.

Thank you Paddy Teglia and our amazing sponsors: Lighthouse Lounge, KRCL Radio, OFOAM/Ogden Music Festival, Hive Realty, Just James Studio, and Lavender VInyl!

Check out Rock Camp SLC and consider a donation for this wonderful organization.
