OGDEN, Utah — There probably isn’t another day of the year where you’ll find more Ogdenites in one place. Ogden’s Harvest Moon Celebration attracts around 30,000 people to Historic 25th Street each year around the September full moon. It is the one day out of the year that the community can gather to celebrate in the street and welcome autumn. As hoped, it looks like it will be perfectly sunny hoodie weather at around 69 degrees during the day.
The Harvest Moon Celebration returns to Historic 25th Street in Ogden on Saturday, Sept. 19, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. While the actual Harvest Moon is Saturday, Sept. 26, we will have 56 percent illumination from the waxing gibbous moon on this night. There will be a fall produce market (until 2 p.m.), campsite-themed Rec Room, free pumpkin crafts until 6 p.m., a revamped Harvest Village in Municipal Park, 27 live performances across three stages, a beer garden featuring local breweries, food trucks, and 160 artisan vendors.
Understanding that street dancing is where most of the magic happens, the Ogden Downtown Alliance is introducing the Gathering Hall, alongside 27 performances across three stages, to provide more space for dancing.
Gathering Hall Lineup:
12:00 PM – Family-friendly demonstration from Devotion Championship Wrestling
1:30 PM – Beginner line dancing with Ray Rhea
3:00 PM – Beginner salsa with Utah Salsa
6:00 PM – DJ GOYK 3-hour dance party
“One of the things I’m most excited about this year is our new Gathering Hall,” said Jere Keys, Special Events Director for the Ogden Downtown Alliance in a press release. “Traditionally, harvest celebrations end with people coming together to dance, and we wanted to bring some of that spirit back to Harvest Moon. So bring your dancing shoes, you don’t need to know what you’re doing before you get here.”
Harvest Moon is a long tradition started almost a quarter-century ago by a few women who loved Ogden. They knew that an annual day of community celebration on 25th Street was core to Ogden’s identity and historic past. Led by Heidi Harwood (City Club/Brewskis), Kym Buttschardt (Roosters Hospitality Group), Sara Toliver (Visit Ogden), Jo Packham (Urban Studio), and others, the first Harvest Moon celebration was held in 2002.
The annual NUHOPE Suicide Awareness Walk will once again take place at 10 a.m. at the Ogden Amphitheater in Downtown Ogden prior to the celebration.
Along with free transportation provided by Ogden Express OGX (Route 603x) and the Ogden Trolley (Route 601), there will be a complimentary bike valet at the information booth (southeast corner of Grant Avenue and 25th Street).
