Film and Halloween enthusiasts can catch the locally produced supernatural thriller “The Hollow Ones” on the big screen Saturday, Oct. 24, at 2:30 p.m. at the Kaysville Theatre.

The 84-minute drama-thriller was filmed over six months in the Northern Utah cities of West Haven and Riverdale on a tiny budget with local actors — including the sons of the independent film’s writer and director, Sam Potter.

It’s a first feature from Potter, a local family nurse practitioner and Weber State University graduate who produced the film independently.

“The Hollow Ones” follows two brothers in foster care as they uncover the mystery of their dead parents one Halloween night.

According to a press release, the film “blends mystery and suspense with a story centered on grief, family, and the relationship between two brothers trying to understand what happened to the parents they lost.”

“The Hollow Ones” was nominated for the Power Stone Award for Best Drama/Thriller at the Zepstone International Film and Music Festival in Murray, Utah, in September, and was named an official selection of the New York Monthly Film Festival, Alpine International Film Festival, London Visions Film Festival and Los Angeles Lift-Off Online Film Festival.

The film will be available for streaming a week after the screening.
