An outdoor stage production of “Bye Bye Birdie” opens Wednesday, Sept. 10, at Barker Park Amphitheater in North Ogden. Eight show are scheduled, starting at 7:30 p.m., running through Sept. 20.
The production marks a revival of an outdoor theater program in North Ogden that stopped some years ago, said producer Stacey Dixon, who also stars in the show as Rosie. “Miracles have happened, and the right people have been in place” to bring it back to life, she said.
The cities of Farr West and North Ogden collaborated to make it happen after Dixon reached out. She noted that the new Barker Amphitheater is the ideal location to revamp the city’s outdoor theater: “Gorgeous hillside with mountains all around…it rivals a lot of nice amphitheaters.”
Dixon, who regrets not participating in high school theater, has been acting in local theater productions for four years. She was cast in her first community theater production, “Oliver!”, alongside her daughter four years ago. She has appeared with her daughter in “Newsies” at Beverly’s Terrace Plaza Playhouse, “The Adams Family” at Clearfield Community Center, “Into the Woods,” Ogden Musical Theatre’s “Music Man,” among others.
Dixon and her daughter Daphne both star in “Bye Bye Birdie.” Her favorite song is “What Did I Ever See In Him” because it’s a scene they perform together.
The cast of approximately 30 includes local talent of all ages. Laura Crossett directs the production, with choreography by Bailery Porter and costume design by Amber Stephens.
“Bye Bye Birdie” runs for eight nights from Wednesday, Sept. 10, through Saturday, Sept. 20, at Barker Amphitheater located at 2375 Fruitland Dr. in North Ogden. All shows begin at 7:30 p.m.
