Grab the kids and bells and sway around the tree to this – one of Ogden’s singer-songwriters released two new Christmas covers just in time for the holidays. This fall, Danny Carver aka Wood Carver, and his friend and drummer Mike Lomax, took a break from working on their upcoming EP to record two favorite holiday tunes they play regularly this time of year. Lomax mixed and mastered both songs they recorded at Carver’s house.
Marimba, kazoo, slide and siren whistles – and a saxophone and flute by Jon Coombs – give this version of “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch” a “wacky flavor,” Carver said. Being Halloween time when they were recording, he was influenced by “The Nightmare Before Christmas” soundtrack he’d been listening to.
“Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer” is the second new holiday track. “I remember hearing that song when I was a kid and thinking it was funny, although, we, in no way, condone the running over of grandmas by reindeer.” In fact, they wanted to bring awareness to this problem.
Now they’re back to work on the Wood Carver EP that is due to be released in February next year.
The new holiday tracks are available now wherever you stream your music.
