Signature Removal From Prop 4 Petition hosted by Weber County League of Women Voters

NEWS

If you felt misled or misinformed and signed the "Repeal Prop 4" petition, you can request the removal of your signature at three locations in Weber County: Weber County Library and Pleasant Valley Library on Wednesday, and Southwest Library in Roy on Thursday, from 3 to 6 p.m.

The event is hosted by the Weber County League of Voters, a local league of the national nonpartisan, grassroots organization formed by suffragist leaders in 1920. With a mission to expand voting rights and defend democracy, the league provides information and events throughout the county.

If you’re unsure what the “Repeal Prop 4” petition is about, the League of Women Voters of Utah offers a summary. In short, Utah voters passed Proposition 4 in 2018, which banned partisan gerrymandering and established an independent redistricting commission. In 2020, Republican lawmakers enacted SB 200, repealing the ban on partisan gerrymandering – against the will of voters – and reduced the commission to an advisory role. The League of Women Voters of Utah and partners sued, and the Utah Supreme Court ruled in their favor. The court selected a new less gerrymandered map that creates three districts favoring Republicans and one district favoring Democrats in the Salt Lake area. Republicans appealed the decision in January.

Meanwhile, Republican lawmakers launched a ballot initiative to get Prop 4 back on the ballot in 2026. As of Sunday, they had submitted over the required signatures, according to Utah News Dispatch. The signatures, reportedly obtained by deceit and misinformation in many cases, have yet to all be verified, and signers still have time to remove their signatures.

KSL reported on Feb. 12 that county clerks had received more than 2,300 requests from people asking for their signatures to be removed, an "unprecedented sum.”

Weber County League president Terri McCulloch says the signature reversal process takes about 5-10 minutes to fill out a one-page form and sign. You can take it to the County Clerk's office and turn it in, or put it in the stamped, addressed envelope they will provide.

You can also print out the Request to Remove Petition Signature Form from your county elections website and fill it out. It must be mailed or delivered in person.
