How is community different in the U.S. than your home country?
“In the U.S., lots of things are modernized like roads, technology and more personal opportunities like jobs, careers, and even sports.”
What drives you to serve others?
“Service itself is an act demonstrated to us by God through Jesus Christ. When he was in this world, he taught us how to love, how to care for others, and this is what I try to do. What also drives me is the people who have really impacted my life, trying to help me in the absence of my family. This is a way of me giving back and helping someone else in need.”
What is one experience volunteering that you'll never forget?
“All or most are never-forgetting experiences, but sometime in 2025 during the Willard Fire in North Ogden, I went and supported law enforcement with helping people evacuate from their places, before volunteering with Red Cross to help potential victims find shelter, food, and it was heartbreaking having to help people evacuate. That humbled me and I learned that we should appreciate what we have since anything, including our lives, can be taken away anytime.”
What inspired you to start running?
“I wanted to believe I could do something, break records, go through challenges and overcome them. Two quotes that drive me:
Phillipians 4:13 ‘I can do all things through Christ who Strengthens me.’
Eliud Kipchoge: ‘No Human is Limited.’“
What do you like most about Ogden?
“The scenery, and mountains around it. The people are super amazing. Ogden is so full of art and talent more than people think. I love all the nonprofits and local businesses and enjoy listening to people's success journeys — it's so inspiring.”
If someone wants to get involved with the community, where should they start?
“As GOAL Foundation says, "Get Out And Live” pretty much starts with your own willingness. Most things are online, from events and volunteer opportunities. Also finding the right people, in which Ogden is a wonderful place filled with amazing people.”
How did you meet people in Ogden?
“When I moved to Utah and was looking for what to do apart from just working and going home after a winter season, I heard that Ogden Marathon was happening and just got excited and wanted to sign up. I went to GOAL Foundation, found Alex Docta and asked. He told me it was full and as I was leaving I asked how I could help and he showed me how to sign up, and I loved the whole experience. In the middle of volunteering for Ogden Marathon 2023, Salena Ward also reached out and through her I started meeting Ogden and its wonderful people.”
What are your favorite places to go in Ogden?
“Bonneville Shoreline Trail for my practice runs, Ogden Nature Center my # 1, Ben Lomond Peak, and the Ogden Canyon waterfall.”
Do you have a favorite memory in Ogden since you've been here?
“I have a lot, but me being awarded the 3rd overall winner for the men's Winter Running Series 2026 was a once said promise fulfilled.”
What do you miss about Kenya?
“My family; my church family; Matoke, a famous dish; the beautiful nature; and wildlife.”
