Howdy friends, whether you rolled strikes or gutters this year, I just want to check “to see what condition your condition is in.” As the air gets colder, I think about how this “whole durned human comedy keeps perpetuating itself down through the generations … westward the wagons, across the sands of time …” But enough rambling, the point is that it’s time for Ogden’s Big Lebowski Fest, this Saturday, Nov. 8, to slow down and think about the things that have us all uptight heading into the holidays.

Once again, Peery’s Egyptian Theater is opening its doors at 5 p.m. on Saturday for the 11th annual Ogden’s Big Lebowsk Festival – a celebration of the Coen Brothers’ 1990s cult classic featuring a costume contest, trivia, prizes, themed art vendors and cocktail bar (yes, White Russians), and the film screening of “The Big Lebowski.”

“The Big Lebowski,” released in 1998, stars Jeff Bridges as Jeff “The Dude” Lebowski, “a laid-back bowler whose misadventures have made him an enduring cultural icon,” organizers stated in a press release. “The film also features John Goodman, Julianne Moore, and Steve Buscemi, and is celebrated for its eccentric characters, sharp dialogue, and offbeat humor.”

The event, hosted by local independent production company New Ogden Cinema, is the only Big Lebowski Fest in Utah and west of the Mississippi! So, don your robes and join hundreds of other fans. If you feel like that isn’t enough excitement, you can pregame at the LAB Arcade Bar and roll with your fellow dudes to the after-party hosted by Funk ‘N Dive Bar – live music from the Union Band – where your festival ticket will get you a discount on the cover charge. And remember “The Dude abides.”

I don’t know about you, but I take comfort in that. It’s good knowing he’s out there. The Dude. Takin’ ‘er easy for all us sinners. Especially after the craziness this year.

Ogden’s 11th annual Big Lebowski Festival is Saturday, Nov. 8, 5 p.m., at Peery’s Egyptian Theater in Ogden, Utah. The film screening begins at 7:30 p.m. Additional information and tickets are available at ogdenpet.com/events.
