Local filmmaker Ryan McDonald is the writer and director of an upcoming feature film “Left for Dead,” by New Ogden Cinema to be shot at locations in Utah. There are three days left in an Indiegogo crowd-funding campaign; then producers plan to begin filming.
Last summer, New Ogden Cinema filmed the comedy short “Convicts and Chocolate,” a parody of the films “Forrest Gump” and “Con Air” written and directed by Brandie McDonald, that has won awards in film festival circuits this year including the audience award for Narrative Program at the Utah Arts Festival.
“Left for Dead” is an “action-packed, high-octane thriller” set against the Utah backdrop that will star Utah's own BJ Whimpey, Ryan McDonald, and Charles Cook. The filmmakers say this post-apocalypse western, part “No Country for Old Men”, part “Mad Max,” is a film unlike any audiences have seen before.
Filmmaking is costly, especially for independent artists. This film needs funding for production expenses including location fees and film permits, costumes, professional actors and production crew, and more. Supporters have the opportunity to choose their level of involvement from small donations to their name in the credits, and even as an executive producer.
This film will add to the roster of Utah films we take pride in that showcase our beautiful desert landscapes, and help artists create lasting art that provides entertainment and inspiration for years to come.
