Mental health awareness concert, Mitten Durch Rock Experience, returns to Ogden on Oct.12 at The Monarch from 3-7 p.m. The Mitten Durch concert is in celebration of World Mental Health Awareness Day, which falls on Oct. 10. The concert aims to bring together the community and spread the conversation around mental health awareness.
Mitten Durch Rock Experience first came to Ogden in 2023 after being self-funded by founder Sandra Hohmman. The concert is now making its second appearance in Ogden with performances from rock and alternative bands Blindlove, Cecret Souls, and Sun Tiger.
“Mitten Durch” is a German phrase that translates to “straight through.” It’s a phrase that speaks to pushing through the emotional hardship those with mental health problems experience every day.
“You can’t go under it, you can’t go over it, you have to go straight through it”, said Hohmann. “Often when people talk about mental health problems they talk about the before or the after, but never when you are in the middle of it.”
Hohmann said that her three kids each went to different high schools, and suicide amongst teenagers happened at each school. These tragic instances are part of the reason why Hohmann has put together a concert to spread awareness of the conversations around mental health.
During the 2023 Mitten Durch, Hohmann recruited pop, electronic, and acoustic artists, but this year the focus is all on rock. Hohmann said that she grew up in an orphanage and live music always felt like a mini vacation; music unites and puts people in the same direction.
Mitten Durch offers more than just music; the event will also have mental health resources and organizations available for anyone looking to learn more about the conversations around anxiety and depression. Some activities attendees can expect to see at Mitten Durch include metal yoga, breathing exercises, and meditation.
This year's Mitten Durch concert is sponsored by Atlas Tea Company, Peak Chiropractic, Vagus Counseling, and My Mind & Body Collective. All the sponsors are businesses located in Ogden, bringing the sense of the community closer together.
Mitten Durch is a festival that exists to let people know they are not alone in their struggles. Hohmann said that mental health counseling can be expensive, and not everyone can commit to it. An event like Mitten Durch can help to build a larger sense of community and provide a break from the struggles of everyday life.
Tickets for general admission at Mitten Durch run for $22 plus fees, but $2 of every ticket sold will be given to the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. Mitten Durch also offers VIP packages for those interested in connecting and learning more about mental health after the concert. Tickets for Mitten Durch can be found on Eventbrite.com.
Hohmann wants to see Mitten Durch grow as a concert event in Ogden. In January 2026, Hohmann plans to do another Mitten Durch experience, but this time with blues artists.
“I figure mental health doesn’t really know any difference whether you are left or right, gay or straight…I want to provide something for everyone,” said Hohmann.
