Happy Magpie Book & Quill, located inside Studio 7 at The Monarch on 455 25th Street, officially opens Wednesday, September 28 with a ‘Grand Open Mic’ from 6–9 p.m. to celebrate.

The event will set the tone for what Happy Magpie’s Patrick Ramsay, a local writer, envisions for his new community-based bookshop and writers’ space.

“Happy Magpie can serve as the place for writers and readers to go and dive into a new poem or a new book, or maybe even find new writing buddies and build lasting friendships and experiences based on literature,” Ramsay says.

Everyone can afford a book at Happy Magpie. Ramsay stated on his Instagram page that no amount is too little. Even a dime will do. In turn, book donations are highly encouraged to keep the book shelves stocked.

If you have a book you no longer want or need, it can be a happy new read for someone else.

“It’s a cycle of Ogdenites supporting Ogdenites,” Ramsay says. “We’re just here to facilitate that.”

Bring a book, a poem or story to share, or just come to listen to Ogden’s literary voices tonight.
