What is The Ogdenite?

My artist daughter designed this logo for me last year around this time, when I knew in my heart The Ogdenite was something I must do, yet wasn’t quite sure exactly what it would be. I told her my favorite color is yellow, I see the world through the eye of a daisy (my favorite flower), I’m a 70s child in my heart and soul, and the typewriter is romantic.

I enjoy freelance writing for local publications, and am deeply grateful for the opportunities, but the fire in me to share stories about people, music, artists, history, etc., needs an additional outlet to write ever more freely and wildly.

The Ogdenite project is a gift from me to you, Ogden. Independent, honest, and inclusive writing is my promise.

Because I am sometimes asked, I will address it here: What is an “Ogdenite?”

Ogden•ite

1) a native or inhabitant of the US city of Ogden.
”she was an Ogdenite at heart"

I borrowed that from the Oxford English Dictionary’s definition of New Yorker. Although I’ve never been, I am inspired and influenced by stories of New York City and my favorite publication, The New Yorker. One of my weekly posts is a nod to the New Yorker’s “Goings On About Town” (wink!).

I’ve been calling Ogden the new “City of Dreams.” It’s the way it felt to me the first time I spent at day on Historic 25th Street, and the reason I relocated here in 2015 from Salt Lake City.

Thank you for everyone who has liked, followed, read, supported, and shared my efforts to shine a big bright light on this magic little pocket of the Mountain West.

This fills me up with so much joy. I’m having a blast creating weekly posts such as “Goings On About O-Town,” “Eat, Drink, Ogden,” “If You Do One Thing In Ogden This Week Do This,” “Song Of The Week/Songs From 25th Street,” “Weekend Highlights,” and soon, the “Ogden Music Scene: Live Music Calendar.”

More is coming. I see a collection of literature, podcasts, music, poetry, news, humor, food, history and cultural coverage…in the Ogden area and beyond.
